Chris Willis began his racing career in 2001 when he was 11 years old. He started out racing quarter midgets in Huntsville, AL with trips to Georgia and Pennsylvania. In 2002 he also made trips to Florida, Kansas, and the newly built track in Tennessee. In 2003 Chris Willis started out racing in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee before moving on to Mini-Cups.

Chris Willis began Mini-Cup racing in mid 2003 in Carthage, TN with trips to Huntsville, AL. In 2004 he became a member of the Miniature Motorsports Racing Association(MMRA) and continued racing in Carthage, TN also making his 1st start in a Baby Grand Stock car. Then in 2005, he raced in Carthage, TN and in Nashville, TN. This would be his last year racing a Mini-Cup, and his most succesful year yet.
